In a statement on Sunday, February 16, Gachagua commended Raila for putting in a spirited fight despite losing to Mahmoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti.

"@RailaOdinga, you put on a brave fight, elicited energy, resilience, and the undefatigable Lion of Africa. You came in a credible 2nd as you held the Kenyan Flag high in a hotly contested seat of the AUC Chairmanship. You did not lose; the majority had their way. The African and the Kenyan spirit lives on," Gachagua said.

At the same time, Gachagua alluded that it could have been God's intention for Raila to lose in the AUC bid so that he could fight for Kenyans.

The former deputy president appeared to urge Raila to join those opposed to President William Ruto's administration.

"Africa needed you most, but God, in His own wisdom, found that Kenya, your motherland, and indeed, we Kenyans, your beloved brothers and sisters, have unfinished business with you as their coveted son as we unshackle our country from recklessness," he added.

According to Gachagua, the outcome of the AUC election doesn't undermine Raila's credentials of fighting for the rights of Kenyans.

"In any case, the outcome at the AU doesn't, in any way, undermine your leadership and your energy to fix our Nation. Welcome back home, our son Raila Odinga, with your head held high; East or West, home is the best. Take heart, you did Kenya proud," he added.

Meanwhile, Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi is among the leaders who were unhappy with the AUC election.

Reacting to the AUC election outcome, Amisi appeared to point an accusing finger at ODM leaders supporting President William Ruto's administration.

According to Amisi, the pride, and arrogance of support of Raila's close allies might have contributed to his loss.

Following the results, the Saboti lawmaker hinted at the former prime minister contesting for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
