Gachagua in Kisumu as he warms up for Western Kenya charm offensive

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has touched down in Kisumu ahead of a crucial two-day campaign tour targeting the Western Kenya region.
The move appears to be a calculated move to galvanize political support and expand the opposition’s footprint across the country.
The DCP party leader's arrival at Kisumu International Airport on Wednesday marks the beginning of a series of high-stakes rallies under a broader national campaign framed as a “liberation cause.”
The initiative is being driven by key opposition figures aiming to capitalise on growing discontent over governance and economic hardships.
The political offensive will take Gachagua and his allies through multiple towns in Vihiga and Kakamega counties.
On Thursday, the team is scheduled to hold rallies in Luanda and Mbale in Vihiga, before heading to Malava, Mumias, and finally Kakamega town.
Accompanying Gachagua are several senior opposition leaders, including Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former powerful Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa (Defence), Fred Matiang’i (Interior), and Justin Muturi (Public Service).
Also present are Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala.
The opposition has stepped up its grassroots engagements in recent weeks, signaling a renewed bid to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration’s grip on the political landscape.
Gachagua, who has emerged as a vocal critic of the current leadership, has already held rallies in key regions including Meru, Laikipia, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties.
Their most recent stop was in Narok County, as the opposition intensifies efforts to present itself as a viable national alternative.
With mounting pressure from all corners, the Kisumu visit signals not just a charm offensive, but a deliberate strategy to reposition the opposition ahead of future political realignments.
