Fans of Anna (Kristen Bell), Elsa (Idina Menzel), and Olaf (Josh Gad) learned from in 2024 that would answer many of the nagging, unanswered questions brought up following the events of Frozen II (2019). Lee, who co-directed the first two films along with Chris Buck, also revealed that it would take two films to tell the upcoming story. However, the Chief Creative Officer of Walt Animation, Jared Bush, is playing a bit coy and trying to minimize spoilers when asked about the possible two-part cinematic event, and if the film was indeed designed that way. Bush said while attending the 2025 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France (per Collider):
"Some of that is under wraps, but what I'd share with you is that right now, the work being done on Frozen III, specifically, is phenomenal. When people see it, I think returning to that world with those characters, the entertainment value of watching them go on a new journey, but that feels very organic to the story they've already been on, is fantastic."
Bush continued by saying:
"For me personally, I think that it's critical to make sure that every movie we do is fantastic. We have the luxury of being able to look at movies many times, so looking at Frozen III as, 'Can we tell the very best story we can with that and not worry about where we're going to split into that next story,' is sort of important. One thing at a time is, to me, the best way to approach it."

To clarify, when Lee appeared at D23 during the summer of 2024, the Frozen and Frozen II co-director said, "It will take two films to answer" all the unresolved questions. So, from that standpoint, Frozen III and Frozen IV won’t necessarily be akin to the way Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame combined for a legitimate two-part cinematic event. However, while how much of a connection will exist between Frozen III and IV remains a mystery, it does seem that Bush has discovered the "musical soul" of the next Arendelle adventure.

Frozen III’s highly anticipated theatrical release will come eight years after fans last saw their favorite characters on the big screen in the 2019 sequel, Frozen II. However, one thing the Arendelle fandom might be anticipating even more than seeing Anna (Bell), Elsa (Menzel), and Olaf (Gad) again is learning more about the project's new music, and the Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation, Jared Bush, put Frozen’s songs into context. Bush also said while appearing at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival:
"The song is always deeply tied to what the character's story is going to be and what those dynamics are. I'd say I have an idea of what that's going to be. That's very exciting. I think we'll surprise people in the best way. I guess that’s as much as I can say about that."
Frozen ($1.27 billion) and Frozen II ($1.45 billion) are two of the highest-grossing movies worldwide from Disney. In fact, if one doesn't count the Mouse House’s Marvel and Star Wars titles, Frozen II would rank at No. 3 on the company's highest-grossing box office list of all time, just behind Inside Out 2 ($1.69 billion) and The Lion King ($1.66 billion), while Frozen would check in at No. 4.
Frozen III is slated to open in theaters just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2027. Until then, Arendelle fans can relive all the magic with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf as both the original Frozen and Frozen II are available to stream on Disney+.
