Four Killed, Ten Injured In Fresh Borno Explosion

The Borno State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated in Komala Village, Konduga Local Government Area, killing four passengers and injuring ten others.

The explosion, which occurred around 12:30 pm, struck an Isuzu pickup vehicle conveying passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri, the state capital.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, attributed the incident to suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

He said, “One Isuzu pickup vehicle with registration number DAM 156 XA (Borno), conveying passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri, on reaching Komala Village, Konduga Local Government Area, the vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

“As a result of the explosion, four persons lost their lives, while ten others sustained various degrees of injuries.

“The corpses of the deceased and the injured victims have been evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, for autopsy and medical treatment respectively.”

The police deployed a joint security team to the scene to prevent further attacks.

Daso added that Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts have commenced investigations at the blast site.

He said, “Normalcy has returned to the area,” stressing that security agencies remain on high alert.

The latest incident came barely a week after the Nigerian Army confirmed that a female suicide bomber a busy fish market in Konduga, leaving 16 people dead and scores injured.
