Foundation unveils new learning platform forAfrica's out-of-school children
An indigenous Foundation, The Destiny Trust, yesterday, launched the Beta version of OurSchool.africa, a free digital learning platform created to bring quality basic education to every African child—especially the millions excluded from formal schooling.
A statement, signed by Co-founder of the Foundation, Abimbola Ojenike, stated: “OurSchool.africa is our gift to the African child. It is no coincidence that we are rolling out this Beta version on Children’s Day. On a day meant to celebrate every child, we are standing in the gap for those who are forgotten and left behind. This platform exists to reach even the hidden children and restore their rights to learn.”
“The platform combines curriculum-aligned content with storytelling, visual learning, and simple technology. OurSchool.africa is a mobile-friendly platform designed to work online and offline, and accommodates children who are just beginning to learn, or who have never been to school.”
According to the statement, The Destiny Trust is also working to deliver the content offline to children in underserved hard-to-reach communities, adding that the Beta launch marks the beginning of a broader mission.
Ojenike said that in the months ahead, the Foundation would set up more multimedia learning spaces for offline access in underserved communities, enhance Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities to offer more personalised learning experiences, provide voice-guided instructions, as well as partner with network providers to enable data-free access to the platform in remote communities.
She said that the goal of the Foundation is also to make the platform accessible in multiple African languages through natural language processing, ensuring that language is never a barrier to learning.
“We cannot wait for school buildings to find out-of-school children. We must take learning to where they are. That’s why we are calling on governments, private organisations and public-spirited individuals to join us to scale this effort. Together, we can change the future of education in Africa,” she further said.
