Chrisland: Autopsy confirms electrocution caused Whitney Adeniran's death

Published 6 hours ago2 minute read

An autopsy presented before a Lagos coroner has confirmed that 12-year-old Desola Whitney Adeniran died from electrocution, not illness or drug reaction, during a school event earlier this year.

The revelation was made by pathologist Dr. Sanni Ayodele Daniel during a resumed session of the coroner’s inquest at the Magistrate Court in Ikeja on June 20, 2025.

According to Dr. Daniel, who conducted the autopsy, the immediate cause of death was asphyxia caused by electrocution. He told the court that there were no signs of any pre-existing illness or medication-related reactions in the deceased.

Among the findings listed in the medical report were fluid blood in the circulatory system, an abrasion on the back of the right forearm, electric burn marks on the right knee, subpleural petechial hemorrhages in the brain, kidney shock, and cerebral edema.

Dr. Daniel was cross-examined by counsel to the deceased’s family, Oluwatodimu Ige, and by counsel to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Abimbola Ojenike. The FCCPC was also represented by Oluwadamilola Omotosho.

Notably absent from the proceedings were representatives of Chrisland Schools and the event vendor, Mr. Ademoye Adewale, despite being served with hearing notices.

The coroner adjourned the matter to August 8, 2025, for continued cross-examination of the witness by the legal representatives of the absent parties.
