Foul trouble ends Nebraska's Big Ten tournament run in 85-74 loss to UCLA in quarterfinals - Yahoo Sports
The Nebraska women's basketball team (21-11) faced a great challenge in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night: No. 4 UCLA (28-2). Though Nebraska put up a fight, stronger than its previous clash with the Bruins, they fell short at the end 85-74.
The Huskers played from behind throughout the contest but found ways to stay right behind UCLA up until the fourth. The deciding factor stemmed from the free throw line, however, with Nebraska struggling with foul trouble.
The Huskers committed 22 fouls in the loss, leading to 19 points for UCLA at the free-throw line. The Bruins also outrebounded Nebraska 39-27. The Huskers primarily failed to snatch offensive rebounds, with UCLA outmaneuvering them 18-6, resulting in just six second-chance points. The Bruins scored 17 second-chance points.
This tilted the scales away from Nebraska, who finished the night on par with the Bruins in total shots made. The Huskers also landed one more basket from beyond the arc than UCLA but only shot 7-of-8 at the foul line.
The Bruins' Lauren Betts and Gabriela Jacquez combined for 51 points on the night, going a combined 19-of-28 from the floor and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Betts also hauled in 13 rebounds to earn a double-double. Betts led the Bruins in scoring, dropping 28 points after going 11-of-15 from the floor.
Britt Prince led Nebraska in scoring, dropping 24 points after shooting 9-of-15 in total, 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Prince also co-led the Huskers in assists, earning six.
Alberte Rimdal also snatched six assists while scoring 10 points. She shot 4-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the line. Alexis Markowski finished with 11 points but also fouled out through 26 minutes of action.
Nebraska now awaits its fate for the post-season. The NCAA selection show is set for next Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. CT on ESPN.
