The long-drawn legal battle between Epic Games and Apple is finally at an end, with Fortnite officially back on the App Store after five years. The drama started in 2020, when Apple removed Fortnite from its store after Epic found a way to bypass platform fees. This resulted in a lawsuit, which has been drawn out till today.

While the case has been simmering over the past few years, things started heating up again this week. After Epic won part of the dispute, it was found that Apple was in “willful violation” of an injunction that prevented anticompetitive practices. This meant that Fortnite was legally cleared to be on the App Store. However, Apple took its sweet time with the review of the app.

According to Epic, the Fortnite app was submitted for review on May 9, and was met with radio silence for over four days, despite most apps getting approved in 24 hours. This eventually led to Epic publicly proclaiming that Apple has blocked the app for no apparent reason, and the ball is now in their court.

"Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it." Eventually, a United States district judge stepped in and asked Apple to explain the delay, and a day later, Fortnite is available on the App Store.

"Fortnite is BACK on the App Store in the U.S. on iPhones and iPads... and on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in the E.U! It’ll show up in Search soon," said a tweet by Fortnite. This was retweeted by Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney, who eloquently said, "we back fam."

Finally, the long legal battle is over, and we no longer need to see Sweeney's never-ending tweets about how terrible Apple is. Hopefully, the drama is behind us and fans can finally enjoy Fortnite on their Apple devices without two massive corporations throwing a hissy fit.
