Former Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has been nominated as the Chairperson of the Murang’a County Public Service Board, just weeks after completing her term at the teachers’ employer.
In a notice dated June 18, 2025, Governor Irungu Kang’ata submitted Macharia’s name along with four other nominees to the Murang’a County Assembly for vetting and approval. The governor’s communication, referenced in a letter dated June 10, 2025, was officially presented to the Assembly as required by law.
The full list of nominees includes Dr. Nancy Njeri Macharia for Chairperson, Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali, Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua, and Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu as members, and Oscar Kimani Gathura as Secretary.
The Assembly has referred the names to the Committee on Governance, Labour and Social Welfare, and Justice and Legal Affairs, which will vet the nominees and table a report. According to Standing Orders, the vetting process and decision must be completed within 21 days from June 17.
If approved, Macharia will take up her new leadership role in Murang’a County after serving nearly a decade at the helm of TSC.
Her exit from TSC led to the appointment of Evaleen Mitei as Acting CEO through an internal memo dated June 1, 2025. Mitei, who was overseeing the Human Resource Management Division, was appointed to take over in an interim capacity.
However, the recruitment of a substantive CEO has since been suspended following a court order by the Employment and Labour Relations Court. The court halted the process after a petition was filed by Thomas Oyugi, who raised concerns about the legality of the recruitment procedure.
