FOA School receives support from Chinese Consulate General
The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, in collaboration with Huaxing Arts Troupe Nigeria, Association of Chinese Women in Nigeria, and China Industrial and Commercial Enterprise Association, recently organized a charity initiative at the Fazil Omar Ahmmadiyya (FOA) Primary School in Okokomaiko, Lagos.
The Chinese community had earlier renovated the school, equipped it with a borehole and generator, provided scholarships, and helped over 400 cataract patients through surgery.
The latest initiative, ‘Together Fight Against Hunger’ Charity programme, was part of the Nigeria and China Cultural Exchange (Walk-in School Activities) event.
Speaking at the event, Liu Rui, Director of Administration of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, stressed the Consulate’s commitment to supporting the vulnerable and promoting educational achievement.
“This project is designed to provide essential assistance to students and their families, ensuring that financial constraints do not become barriers to their educational achievement,” Liu said.
Dr. Eric Ni, Chairman of the Huaxing Arts Troupe Nigeria, echoed Liu’s sentiments, stating that the Chinese community desires to uplift and empower Nigerian students and their families.
“We recognise the incredible potential within each child, and we want to ensure that their dreams aren’t limited by their circumstances. They aim to ease the burden on parents who work tirelessly, often with limited resources, to provide for their children,” Ni said.
The event featured a cultural performance by the Huaxing Arts Troupe, showcasing Chinese cultural dances, martial arts demonstrations, and musical performances. Food items worth ₦300,000 each were distributed to 43 families in the low-income bracket within the community.
Adekanbi Taiwo Musa, Secretary to the local government of Iba Local Community Development Area (LCDA), commended the Chinese community for their generosity, noting that it will foster stronger ties and build positive relationships.
