Flutterwave grows US remittance reach with Send App
This follows the company’s successful acquisition of 20 additional Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs), raising its total direct US licences to 34. The move allows Flutterwave to operate across numerous states without intermediaries.
The relaunch means that users in the US can now send money directly to Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt, opening new remittance corridors that were previously unavailable, it said.
Flutterwave has introduced several enhancements to improve the user experience within the Send App. A simplified onboarding process with a quick ID verification has been added to allow faster account creation for new users. The platform now supports payments using US-issued Visa and Discover cards, with optimised transaction flows to ensure that sending money is a straightforward and seamless process.
Strengthened security measures have also been implemented to protect transactions.
The states where the Send App now operates include DC, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, South Carolina and Tennessee. It also covers additional US states and territories such as Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Flutterwave founder and CEO Olugbenga “GB” Agboola said, ““By expanding our reach and enhancing our services, we are empowering millions of Africans in the US to maintain strong financial ties with their home countries, support their families, and contribute to economic development across the continent. Additionally, we are staying true to our core mission of bridging Africa with the global economy and vice versa.”
Earlier in the year, Flutterwave integrated its Swap service into the Send App to support seamless FX transactions. It also strengthened its services in Ghana by securing approval from the Bank of Ghana for inward remittance.
