The film was revealed to be in pre-production on December 20, 2023, with a Production Weekly issue confirming its status.[5] In the new year, a Blumhouse producer, Ryan Turek, mentioned the film was still waiting for the green light.[6] A few days later, on January 3, Christian Stokes confirmed the Production Weekly issue,[7] saying the film was in pre-production in stunt forums.[8] On the eighth, the film was once again confirmed to be happening by Josh Hutcherson.[9] Weeks later, on February 19, Productionlist.com had the film set for a July 1, 2024 production start date in New Orleans;[10] this ended up being postponed to Fall 2024 on March 28.[11] On April 9, 2024, Jason Blum would share a photo of a Jim Henson's Creature Shop employee working on a Mangle sculpture, with parts of Mangle and Toy Bonnie scattered around the desk. Behind the employee were endo parts, Torture Freddy Head's gear, a Freddy plush, and Shadow Freddy's foot next to a sign from Universal's Halloween Horror Nights.[12]

A day later, Blumhouse would officially announce the film for a Fall 2025 release.[13] Over a month later, on May 16, Variety would publish an article that revealed the release date to be moved from Fall 2025 to December 5, 2025.[14] From August 1 to 7, the official Scottgames X/Twitter would post behind-the-scenes work-in-progress photos of the Toy and Withered animatronics.[15] On the eighth, Scottgames would share 4 screenplays for the film, with one of them being real and the other three being fake.[16] On August 16, the film's working title was revealed to be "Music Box" and was set to be filmed in Chalmette, Louisiana, from October 28, 2024, to January 31, 2025.[17] On October 1, Blumhouse hosted a sweepstakes allowing U.S. residents a chance to win 2 tickets to the premiere of the film.[18] A few weeks later, on the eighteenth, Blumhouse and Universal would post a teaser poster of Toy Freddy behind a red curtain.[19]

On October 28, 2024, the production phase of the film began. At various points during production, Caballero Casting, LLC would start making casting calls for the film. Some time in early January, YouTubers Dawko, Razzbowski, Baz, and 8-BitRyan would be invited to the Five Nights at Freddy's 2 set,[20] and they would post videos of the facade pizzerias, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, on January 19.[21] On January 25, Scott, Universal, and Blumhouse gave permission to Dawko to share three exclusive teaser photos on his LA Wildfire Relief charity stream. The first being of the carpet in the entrance of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza with Toy Freddy's face.[22] The second being of a "FazTalker" device that displays the text "You there?"[23] and the third being of a behind-the-scenes photo of Matthew Lillard (William Afton) and Emma Tammi talking to Elizabeth Lail (Vanessa Shelly) in presumably the Afton household.[24] On January 31, 2025, the production phase would come to an end, with the post-production phase beginning.

Following a gap of silences, on March 26, 2025, Jason Blum would share a video announcing that on April 2, 2025, something related to Five Nights at Freddy's 2 would be shared.[25] On April 2, a teaser trailer would be released at CinemaCon 2025 and social media.[26]
