He stated that the worst-hit section of the market was the area where mobile phones and accessories are sold.

Over 300 shops were destroyed on Friday following a fire outbreak at the popular mobile phone market in Kano, Kano State.

The chairman of the market, Jamilu Gama, who confirmed the incident, said the fire lasted for about six to seven hours before it was brought under control.

He stated that the worst-hit section of the market was the area where mobile phones and accessories are sold.

“There was a huge loss of property and assets. In a single shop, you could find items worth N500million, and in some cases, up to N1 billion — all completely burnt,” he said.

According to PUNCH, Gama estimated that the total value of goods lost in the inferno could be as high as billions of naira.

He added that as of the time of the interview, the cause of the fire was still unknown.
