Fire engulfs poultry farm in Erode, loss pegged at Rs15 lakh

Erode: A poultry farm went up in flames at Villarasampatty in the early hours of Saturday. Firefighters said the fire was caused by a short circuit and pegged the damages at Rs15 lakh. It took nearly four hours for the firefighters to put out the flames.
The Erode North police said the poultry farm was being run by V Balasubramani, 48, for the past 16 years. "His neighbours spotted the fire first around 1am and alerted him. Balasubramani immediately reached the spot and contacted the fire department," a police officer said.
Firefighters attached to the Erode town fire station battled the blaze for nearly four hours, before they could bring the same under control.
The Erode North police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
