MANAMA (Bahrain) – On May 18, the FIBA Foundation Board gathered in Bahrain alongside the FIBA Mid-Term Congress and the FIBA Hall of Fame Ceremony.

This meeting was held one day after the iconic FIBA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which served as an opportunity to showcase a new visual identity and to honor eight outstanding individuals who played a key role in the development of basketball on the global stage.

During this third assembly of the current cycle, several key topics were discussed.

Activity Report of the Cultural Heritage Unit

The strategy of the Cultural Heritage Unit is divided into 5 areas of activities: Collections & Historical Archives, Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, FIBA Hall of Fame, Community of Basketball Historians, and Cultural Programs.

The Board members were updated on the progress of each of these activities, including the notable expansion of the FIBA Collections with the addition of 234 items, as well as 209 books added to the Pedro Ferrándiz Library—the largest basketball-dedicated library in the world, located at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball.

As part of its strategy to attract more events to the House of Basketball, the FIBA Foundation launched a new Cinema & Basketball exhibition, which encountered a record breaking success with 6,186 visitors in 2024.

One of the main topics of this section was the new visual identity of the FIBA Hall of Fame, which was unveiled at the induction ceremony in Bahrain.

Activity Report of the Basketball For Good Unit

The Basketball for Good Unit is segmented into three main areas aiming to use basketball as a vector of positive change: Mini Basketball, Youth Leadership, and Community Impact.

The significant key numbers of the 2024 programs were presented to the board through the 2024 Basketball For Good Impact Report, illustrating the results of the Foundation’s work the previous year.

In 2024, over 276,000 youths from 122 countries across all FIBA Regions were positively impacted by Basketball For Good initiatives. Over 680 events were delivered by the wider Basketball For Good Community while 145 community projects were supported by the Foundation.

The empowerment of 86 Mini Basketball educators at the two regional Mini Basketball Conventions significantly contributed to the growth of beneficiaries, since each delegate is then responsible for spreading the movement in his or her own country.

The Board then evaluated the promising applications of the Propose a Project platform, which received a record number of requests.

Activity Report of the Communications & Fundraising Unit

The FIBA Foundation Board received an update from the Communications & Fundraising Unit. Key numbers of the recent initiatives and plans for the upcoming months were presented to the members.

An update on the communication growth was presented, showcasing the creation of a new website and the constant growth figures of recent years.

The contribution of the long-term partners and the obtaining of grants were highlighted and reviewed. Several discussions took place during which members exchanged ideas on how to further increase external financing to support the Foundation’s growing portfolio of activities.

Other matters

The remainder of the meeting was dedicated to discussions on financial and administrative matters.

The next FIBA Foundation Board Meeting is scheduled to be held in the second quarter of 2026.
