FCT Education Secretary, Other Officials Conduct Needs Assessment Of Abuja 'Smart School' | Sahara Reporters

The mandate secretary of the education secretariat, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Dr Danlami Hayyo, the acting executive chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Dr. Alhassan Sule, and other officials have conducted a needs assessment visit to the Karshi Model Smart School in Abuja. 

A release on Monday from the education board said the visit was aimed at assessing the needs of the school and promoting knowledge exchange on smart education practices. 

The visit to the school also witnessed engagement between Nigerian education officials and international stakeholders from countries including Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Benin, and others.

the the release signed by FCT SUBEB spokesperson, Patience Ossai, on Monday, the board noted that the mandate secretary, Hayyo, assured the school community that the FCT Administration is working to connect the school to the national power grid and improve security through collaboration with security agencies to establish an outpost within the school. 

During his remarks, Dr. Hayyo recounted his experience establishing the Kano State Smart School, expressing his intent to replicate the same in Karshi.

 He credited the advancement to his exposure through a South Korea partnership under the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which has helped shape the vision for Smart Education.

Dr. Hayyo revealed that his discussion with the FCT Minister had already yielded results, in the provision of boarding facilities for both male and female students and staff quarters for teachers. 

In addition, he announced that two new school buses would soon be delivered to support transportation needs.of the school.

In his welcome address, Dr. Alhassan Sule expressed delight at hosting the international delegates and emphasised the importance of Smart Education in today’s world. 

He noted that Karshi Model Smart School is strategically positioned in the heart of the nation’s capital and is a natural choice for showcasing Nigeria’s progress in Smart Education.

According to Dr. Sule, the school’s growing prominence reflects the commitment of the FCT administration to transform it into a national hub for educational innovation. “If Nigeria is taking the lead in Smart Education, then Karshi Smart School must be the center of attraction,” he said.

The school’s principal, Mr. Ado Murtala, provided a detailed overview of the institution, highlighting its vision of transforming society through technical knowledge and excellence in ICT-based learning. 

He noted that the school is one of six Smart Schools in Nigeria supported by KOICA and outlined its achievements since inception.

A major highlight of the event was the tour of the school's Content Development Studio, where teachers demonstrated their digital content creation skills and students showcased their understanding of subjects through interactive technology-based tasks. 

In attendance were; Ms Soe Hee Park, Deputy Country Director , KOICA, Hajia Rahmatu Nusa, Director, Junior Secondary Schools in the Board and Malam Bachir Abubukar, Director, Special Needs and Nomadic Education also of the Board, among others.
