Around a year ago, Marc Bernal took advantage of an opportunity handed to him by then-new head coach Hansi Flick, which entailed him training with the first team in preseason.
The lanky midfielder impressed the German to the point of being taken on a preseason tour of the United States.
Strong performances alongside Marc Casado against the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City on American soil then meant that the two namesakes became Flick’s starters in a double pivot as the 2024/2025 campaign got underway.
Just three games into Barca’s eventually successful attempt to wrest back the La Liga title from bitter rival Madrid, however, the teenager rupture his ACL and was ruled out for the rest of the term.
With a season that saw Barca end up treble-winning kings of Spain now wrapped up, Bernal is back on the training pitch with Culers worldwide excited about their team essentially welcoming what will be a new signing to its squad.
Bernal has reportedly grown two inches since we last saw him on a competitive pitch, and he’s also set a new record as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo.
Just three days after turning 18, which is the minimum age to complete such a feat in Spain, Bernal has passed his driving test and can now head out on the road behind the wheel whenever he wishes.
This seems him surpass teammate Pau Cubarsi’s own impressive work, with the center back tipped to win the Golden Boy award later this year passing the exam aged 18 and eight days.
Next up of course will be Lamine Yamal, who this week signed a new contract which will keep him at Barca until at least June 30, 2031 barring a major plot twist.
Lamine turns 18 on July 13, and he can pick up some pointers from his fellow La Masia graduates that made it out of the talented class of 2007 to the FC Barcelona first team on how to breeze past his driving test later this summer.
