(FiH) returns in May to promote Finland’s fashion scene, including its emerging designers.

The events, taking place between May 21 and 24, bring together emerging designers, established brands, and art and design institutions throughout Helsinki, and include runway shows, exhibitions, showrooms, the Aalto University graduate show, and an awards’ ceremony.

‘From designer Juha Vehmaanperä getting crazy with Finnish knitting tradition and heritage brand Kalevala jewellery working with wearable sculptures for almost 90 years to Ervin Latimer designing outfits for a performance at this year’s Venice Biennale of Architecture and award-winning Tuuli-Tytti Koivula creating prints for Italian and French luxury brands, Finnish designers consistently push the boundaries of fashion and art. Finnish fashion means quality over quantity. It is a celebration of freedom and free style,’ said Martta Louekari, FiH’s communication director.

The first event on Wednesday, May 21 is for emerging designers Latimmier, Rolf Ekroth, Sini Saavala, Linda Kokkonen and Hedvig, held at Merihaka, a 1970s brutalist residential development.

Amos Rex, the art museum, will be FiH’s main venue. On Friday, May 23, it will host a presentation and shop by Minttu Vesala, showing looks from over 50 young Finnish designers.

British artist Yinka Ilori, MBE will début a public installation at Amos Rex’s courtyard.

EMMA (Museum of Modern Art Espoo) will have an exhibition, Social Fabric, while Sofia Ilmonen will present at the Architecture and Design Museum.
