A family in Migori County is seeking justice after their kin was lynched by a mob in an alleged mistaken identity case.

The family of a young man only identified as Sirmi said that they had only received news that their kin had been killed.

The family doesn’t understand why he was killed and wants those involved in his death arrested.

Ezekiel Rioba, elder brother to the deceased, said no one has been arrested since the death of their kin two weeks ago.

“We want those involved arrested. My brother was not a thief or anything linked to that,” Mr. Rioba said.

According to Rioba, his brother was a driver, a YouTuber, and a musician.

He demanded that justice be served for the death of his brother.

Caroline Ghati, a relative of the deceased, pleaded with the government to intervene and help them.

“We were just told that our own has been killed. We were shocked by the news that he had been killed by a mob,” Ms. Ghati said.

The deceased had been accused of stealing a motorcycle in Migori.

On Friday, mourners blocked the Migori-Isebania road while transporting his body to their home in Mabera where he was laid to rest.

Transport was paralysed for the better part of the day as police struggled to manage rowdy youths who were armed with clubs.

Kuria West OCPD Reuben Bett confirmed that they had launched their investigations into the murder and called for peaceful coexistence between communities.
