Explosions have been heard over Doha after Iran launched a missile attack on a US base in Qatar.

According to Western officials quoted by Axios, Iran fired six missiles toward at least one American base in the Gulf nation.

The officials said earlier that the Al-Udeid Air Base, situated just outside Doha, was facing a “credible threat”.

Trump administration officials are said to be convening in Washington DC following the developments.

Al-Udeid is home to the US Central Command’s headquarters, and British military personnel also serve there on rotation. Satellite imagery indicates that many aircraft had been relocated from the base in recent weeks.
