EXCLUSIVE: Shahid Kapoor says, “We are not making films which excite the audience”

"We are not making the films which excite the audience," Shahid remarked, reflecting on the need for creators to challenge themselves. He believes the era of pure genres is over, adding, "The time of pure genres needs to go. We need to combine genres. If you are doing an action film, you should combine it with thriller or sci-fi. If it’s a love story, it should have a dark character like Kabir Singh." He stressed the importance of creating multi-layered stories that keep audiences hooked.

Shahid also acknowledged the growing awareness among viewers. "Audience is so educated and has watched so much content that they drop off fast," he said.  He believes genres falter when filmmakers begin to repeat themselves. "Genre fails when filmmakers start repeating them. It fails when filmmakers stop rediscovering."

Encouraging experimentation, Shahid called for a dynamic approach to storytelling. "We should mix it up and change it up," he urged, emphasizing that creativity and reinvention are the keys to captivating audiences in today's content-rich world. With his insightful take on filmmaking, Shahid Kapoor has sparked an important conversation about the future of cinema, urging the industry to push boundaries and embrace change.
