Wharton was taken to hospital as a precaution but was not able to take part in the final games under protocol. It's though the injury occurred when Kevin De Bruyne’s 20-yard shot struck him on the back of the head with 18 minutes remaining, though he continued to play until being substituted in the 87th minute.
“There’s the protocol, they all go through it. I don’t know it in detail but he (Wharton) passed everything otherwise the doctor (would have taken him off) like Maxence (Lacroix) against Brighton. He’s always the first to say take him off,” Palace boss Oliver Glanser said after their historic Wembley victory.
“Sometimes I’m fighting, saying ‘come on come on we need him’. In this situation, everything seemed to be fine but a few minutes later didn’t feel well on the pitch and that’s why we took them off.”

Wharton was left out of the men's senior squad by Thomas Tuchel in order to play a key role in the Euros for the 21s. However, he will be unable to Lee Carsley and will instead spend the summer recuperating.
The Young Lions boss will name his final 23-player squad on June 6 before they begin against Czechia on June 12. They will then face Slovenia on June 15 before meeting Germany on June 18 to round out Group B.
“Everyone at Palace but everyone in England wants to get the best Adam Wharton he can be,” Glanser said, updating on Wharton's condition.
“And obviously, we couldn’t see him, all over the season on a very consistent basis because his body, didn’t fulfil its part. And so that’s why we have to be very careful.”
