For the second year in a row, Ulm players have been drafted
Essengue, Beringer, Saraf selected in first round of NBA Draft
The BKT EuroCup's reputation as a breeding ground for future stars was confirmed on Wednesday night in New York when three players who starred in the competition this past season were selected in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. ratiopharm Ulm teammates Noa Essengue and Ben Saraf were respectively chosen 12th overall by the Chicago Bulls and 26th overall by the Brooklyn Nets. Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana center Joan Beringer was taken with the 17th pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Another product of the Euroleague Basketball system, Hugo Gonzalez of Real Madrid, went to the Boston Celtics with the 28th pick.
One of the youngest players in this year's draft, the 18-year-old Essengue averaged 12.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 18 EuroCup games as a part-time starter for Ulm.
"It's been amazing," Essengue told Chicago reporters when asked about his experience playing for Ulm. "I think it's really helped me become better person not only on the court, but also off the court. Being everyday around people who played in the NBA or in the EuroLeague has been really helpful."
Saraf produced 12.6 points, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 16 EuroCup appearances. Essengue followed in the footsteps of Pacome Dadiet, who was chosen by the New York Knicks with the 25th selection last year by the New York Knicks.
Beringer, who burst onto the scene with Cedevita this season, was worth 4.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. He got stronger as the year progressed, posting PIRs in double figures in five of his last six appearances, including a 12-point, 5-rebound effort in his team's 96-86 victory over Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul in the eighthfinals.
