Epic Universe Theme Park Updates

Universal Epic Universe is set to open on May 22, 2025, and Attractions Magazine recently provided a sneak peek into several of its themed worlds. The new park promises a range of immersive experiences, and the media preview offered a glimpse into the detail and artistry involved in bringing these worlds to life.
Dark Universe
Dark Universe is themed around Universal Classic Monsters. The architecture and signage are designed to evoke a sense of classic horror, with key attractions including The Burning Blade Tavern, which features a special effect that simulates a fire, reminiscent of the 1931 “Frankenstein” film. A highlight of the preview was Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, where attendees could film the pre-show featuring Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, Ygor, and Frankenstein’s Monster. However, actual ride footage was restricted.
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
The Isle of Berk is designed to be a vibrant, dynamic environment. Movement is a key element, with guests, water features, and roller coasters like Hiccup's Wing Gliders and Stardust Racers all contributing to the lively atmosphere. Small details, such as a tiny Viking figure, add to the immersive experience.
Celestial Park
Celestial Park serves as the central hub of Epic Universe, aiming to bring a park-like atmosphere back to the theme park experience. The Chronos portal acts as the main entrance, leading into Luna’s Court of the Moon. Fountains and open spaces define Celestial Park, with architectural details contributing to its visual identity. Stardust Racers, a roller coaster featuring a flux capacitor as a tribute to “Back to the Future,” is also located here. The Hemisphere Stage includes overhead circles that cast shadows, intertwining with the pavement design.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
This area transports visitors to Wizarding Paris in the 1920s. One notable feature is an animatronic Mooncalf, a creature from “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Imelda Staunton reprises her role as Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. The queue area includes details such as the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau and lockers belonging to Harry, Ron, and Neville, now training to become Aurors. Prohibited articles within the Ministry are also listed, adding to the immersive storytelling. Graphic design embellishments throughout the land contribute to the overall mood and narrative.
Attractions Magazine extended congratulations to the designers, contractors, engineers, artists, ride operators, performers, management, and team members involved in creating and stewarding the park. They also hinted at a surprise to be revealed in the coming weeks.
