Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, Lioyd Ike Ekweremadu, has declared that the state has learnt many lessons from the 22nd National Sports Festival, which ended yesterday in Abeokuta.

He told journalists before the closing ceremony that the lessons from Ogun State would make the next edition better in terms of organisation and facilities, among others.

“We came here and have seen what Ogun offered. We are going back to ensure we improve on our facilities and ensure we put up a better organization next year,” he said.

The Commissioner also stated that Enugu is the safest state in the entire South-East, adding that the state hosted a hitch-free international marathon recently.

Enugu State beat Lagos to the hosting right of the 2026 National Sports Festival, which would be the second to be staged in the South-East after the Imo ’98 edition in Owerri.
