SINGAPORE: Regular train services on the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (LRT) line system have progressively resumed, after a power fault on Thursday (Jul 3) morning caused the entire line to go down.

In an update on Facebook at 11.37am, operator SMRT said that traction power on the line had been restored.

"Regular train service has progressively resumed ... We would like to thank all commuters for their patience," it added.

In a further update at 11.51am, SMRT said the free bus services provided during the disruption had ceased operating.

SMRT said earlier that a power fault occurred on the line at about 8.50am, resulting in no train services across the whole Bukit Panjang LRT line system.

Free regular bus services and bridging bus services were made available for affected commuters, along with in-train and station announcements to keep commuters informed, while its on-site staff were deployed to assist affected commuters.

"We apologise for the disruption to your journey and appreciate your patience," it said earlier.

The Bukit Panjang LRT system is an 8km line connecting residential estates within Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang to the North-South and Downtown Lines.

This is the second major train disruption to take place this week, after a signalling fault led to an extra 30 minutes of travel time for commuters on the Thomson-East Coast Line on Tuesday morning.
