England 1-3 Senegal: Oliseh Hails Historic Win, Says Africa Has Nothing To Fear

Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has applauded Senegal’s landmark 3-1 victory over England, declaring that African teams no longer need to fear any opponent on the global stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Teranga Lions made history on Tuesday at City Ground by becoming the first African nation to defeat England, with goals from Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra, and Cheikh Sabaly.

England’s lone response came through captain Harry Kane.

Reacting on his official X account on Wednesday, Oliseh highlighted how the scarcity of international friendlies due to the UEFA Nations League has limited such upsets in recent years.

“The introduction of the European Nations League eliminated almost all possible international friendly match windows,” he wrote.

“That, in my opinion, is the only reason teams like England do not get beaten often by African sides.”

Oliseh further emphasized the growing parity in world football: “The gap is no longer that significant, unlike in the 80s. Africa has no reason to fear any team in the world anymore!”

Looking ahead, England will face Andorra in their next World Cup qualifier in September, while Senegal is set to play Sudan.
