the next film from acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos, has been released. The new dark-comedy thriller will include Emma Stone as protagonist Michelle Fuller, an influential pharmaceutical executive who becomes the center of an unusual kidnapping plot.

In the newly released teaser, two men, played by Jesse Plemons and newcomer Aidan Delbis, successfully kidnap Fuller after being convinced that she is an alien plotting humanity’s downfall. Scenes cut between ordinary, plain corporate offices and a rough, cluttered hideout covered in tinfoil, with flashes of paranoia set to Green Day’s “Basket Case.” The teaser keeps details light but hints at a surreal story combining horror with satire.

Bugonia will be the American version of the 2003 South Korean cult film Save the Green Planet!. The original was successful, earning ninety percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The script is written by Will Tracy, known for thrillers The Menu and the 19-time Emmy-winning show Succession. Alongside Stone and Plemons, the cast includes Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) and comedian Stavros Halkias. The film is produced by Stone, Lanthimos, Lars Knudsen, as well as horror mogul Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar).

Known for films like The Favourite and Poor Things, Lanthimos continues his exploration of strange worlds and flawed characters, once again working with Emma Stone, marking this as the duo’s third collaboration. Early reactions include excitement for Lanthimos’ unique style, transporting audiences into surreal worlds.

Bugonia is set to hit select US theaters on October 24, 2025, and will expand internationally on October 31. The teaser pulls viewers in just enough to spark interest in conspiracy theories, mental health themes, and corporate satire, suggesting a film that feels both unsettling with a slight comedic undertone — a signature of Lanthimos’ work.
