Elon Musk’s exit from US president
Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (
DOGE), the bromance between the duo went into a downward spiral that ended with a very public spat. The dispute, which arose from disagreements over Trump’s “one, big beautiful”
economic bill and its cuts to clean energy incentives, has created a lot of buzz on social media.
Here’s how things played out.
The tensions started when Musk made a fierce attack against Trump’s economic bill and called it a “disgusting abomination” that will worsen the federal budget deficit.
He wrote, “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”
“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,” he added.
While Musk’s criticism of the bill mounted, the American president had remained silent for the most part.
On Thursday, he finally voiced his opinion at the Oval office and said, "Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore. I was surprised.”
Trump claimed that Musk knew “every aspect” of the bill. “He knew it better than almost anybody, and he never had a problem until right after he left.”
In response, Musk asserted that Trump's victory in the 2024 election hinged on his support.
He said, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.”
In a later post he added, “Such ingratitude.”
Trump took a jab at Musk and claimed on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he was the one who asked him to leave DOGE.
"Elon was “wearing thin,” I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!"
He went on to say, "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!" Musk’s companies include SpaceX, which has government contracts.
In retaliation for this comment, Musk announced that SpaceX would start the decommissioning of its Dragon spacecraft.
"In light of the President's statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately," he posted on X.
Musk then took it further and made a serious allegation. Posting on X, he said, "Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!"
"Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out," he later added.
Jeffrey Epstein was a wealthy financier arrested in 2019 on charges of sex trafficking minors through a global network. He committed suicide in a Manhattan prison — a death that remains the focus of widespread speculation and conspiracy theories.
The so-called “Epstein files” encompass flight records, contact books, legal documents, and witness statements. Portions have been released over the years — notably in 2019, 2024, and 2025 — revealing connections to a range of prominent figures, including former presidents, members of royalty, and celebrities.
Amid attacks from Musk, Trump said on Truth Social, "I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago.”
He then went on to defend the bill, saying, “This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress. It’s a Record Cut in Expenses, $1.6 Trillion Dollars, and the Biggest Tax Cut ever given. If this Bill doesn’t pass, there will be a 68% Tax Increase, and things far worse than that. I didn’t create this mess, I’m just here to FIX IT. This puts our Country on a Path of Greatness. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Impeach Trump! Musk
As the feud grew, a user on X suggested that Trump should be impeached and that the current vice president, JD Vance, should replace him.
“President vs Elon. Who wins? My money's on Elon, Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him,” the user said.
Musk reposted this and replied with a clear “Yes."
He even took a shot at Trump’s tariffs and said, "The Trump tariffs will cause a recession in the second half of this year."
