Eid-el-Kabir: Army chief celebrates frontline troops in Jos
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyede, on Sunday celebrated frontline troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN with a special Eid-el-Kabir luncheon in Jos, Plateau State.
The event, held at the Headquarters of Operation SAFE HAVEN, brought together serving and retired senior military officers, as well as other dignitaries, to honour the dedication and sacrifice of soldiers deployed in various operational areas.
Represented by Major General P.E. Eromosele, Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, the COAS praised the troops for their courage, loyalty, and resilience in maintaining national peace and security.
“This celebration is not only to mark the Sallah season but also to appreciate your unwavering commitment to defending the nation’s territorial integrity. Your bravery has resulted in relative peace in many parts of the country,” Oluyede said.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support, strategic leadership, and commitment to improving the welfare of military personnel.
Earlier in his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, described the luncheon as a way of recognising the gallantry of troops who remain on duty while others celebrate with their families.
He described Eid-el-Kabir as a festival of sacrifice and urged personnel to continue upholding virtues of obedience, faith, and selflessness—principles that define military service.
Oyinlola acknowledged the support of the Army Chief in enhancing operational effectiveness through reinforcements, provision of critical combat resources, and prioritising soldiers’ welfare.
He also commended the families of personnel for their continued encouragement and moral support.
“Our mission remains clear—every Nigerian, regardless of religion or ethnicity, deserves to live in peace and dignity. We are resolute in achieving this,” he declared.
Highlights of the celebration included traditional dance performances by the Irigwe New Wave group, a special meal served by senior officers to the troops, riddles and jokes, and the presentation of souvenirs.
