Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has set up a 13-man committee to work on reviewing and reversing the double track scheme in the Free SHS programme in some schools across the country.
The development comes in the back of the John Mahama led government to review all barriers to quality education and ensure that all qualified beneficiaries of the Free SHS initiative have unfettered access to learning methods at all times in line with meeting global standards.
The 13-member team is made up of educational experts, policymakers, and faculty members of key educational institutions across the country including the University of Cape Coast ( UCC), West African Examinations Council ( WAEC), the Ghana Education Service ( GES) amongst other key stakeholders.
Speaking after outdooring the team today, March 27,2025, Hon. Iddrisu intimated that the expertise and experience of the experts will go along way to help the Ministry and government to bring up quality proposals in how to deal with the issues of double track in schools and close the gaps that militate against overall access to quality education in all Senior High schools in the country.
” The time tested expertise and invaluable skillets of this crack team of experts by the Ministry will be very vital and helpful in identifying the existing challenges in the schools that still carry out the double track scheme, and bring up suitable policy measures to address the gaps in enhancing quality education to our wards and future leaders whilst also ensuring equal access to holistic education across board to all qualified students and learners”.
The team comprises of the Deputy Directors of the GES in charge of (Quality and Access), Dr Munawaru Issahaque, and (Management Services) , Prof. Mrs Smile Dzisi, Prof. Godwin Awabil (UCC) , Mr David Odjidja (WAEC) amongst other respected personalities.
