Ghana’s Education Minister and prominent football administrator, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has successfully arranged trials for five promising young Ghanaian players at Italian Serie A giants AC Milan. The players, all under-16 talents from clubs owned by Iddrisu, will spend about one month training and showcasing their skills with the prestigious European club before a decision is made regarding their future with AC Milan.

The five young footballers, Shamsudeen Sulemana, Jafar Abdullah, David Adeti, Theophilus Ahadzi and Abdul Wahid Nuhu have been given this rare opportunity to impress scouts at one of Europe’s most storied clubs, which has won the Champions League seven times. This initiative reflects Iddrisu’s ongoing commitment to nurturing football talent in Ghana and providing pathways for youth to access the global stage.

Haruna Iddrisu, who is also the owner of Ghana Premier League club Karela United and Division One side Steadfast FC, has a notable track record in football development. His clubs have produced talents like Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who progressed from Steadfast FC to Sporting Lisbon and now plays for Leicester City in the English Premier League. This new batch of players could follow a similar trajectory if they impress during their trials in Italy.

The trials come amid Iddrisu’s dual role as a politician and football investor. As a Member of Parliament and Ghana’s Education Minister, he continues to leverage his influence to support youth development in both education and sports. His ownership of Karela United, which he took over following financial difficulties after the death of its previous owner, further underscores his dedication to sustaining and growing Ghanaian football at the club level.

The young players’ time at AC Milan is a significant step not only for their careers but also for Ghanaian football’s international reputation. If successful, these trials could open doors for more Ghanaian youth to be scouted by top European clubs, continuing the legacy of Ghana as a fertile ground for football talent on the world stage.
