ECOWAS Pre-Election Mission Wraps Up in Ivory Coast After Strategic Stakeholder Consultations
The mission was headed by Professor Théodore Holo, a respected legal scholar and former President of Benin’s Constitutional Court. Over several days, the delegation held comprehensive consultations with a broad range of key political and civic actors. These included leaders from various political parties, representatives of civil society organisations, officials from the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), and the incumbent President, Alassane Ouattara.
The primary objective of the visit was to evaluate the prevailing political environment and election preparedness, while simultaneously promoting a peaceful, inclusive, and transparent electoral process. The mission also aimed to reaffirm ECOWAS’s commitment to supporting democratic governance and stability in the region.
Although the specific findings and recommendations of the delegation have not been made public, the successful completion of the mission signals a crucial milestone in regional diplomatic efforts to ensure credible and peaceful elections in Ivory Coast. This initiative is part of ECOWAS’s broader mandate to uphold democratic standards and prevent political unrest across West Africa.
