ECG launches GH¢2.76m project to enhance power supply in Nkawie
The project is to improve power distribution infrastructure across Greater Kumasi
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has embarked a GH¢2.76 million project to construct a new 11kV distribution line from Afari Primary Substation to Nkawie, enhancing power reliability for surrounding communities.
In a report by citinewsroom.com, Ing George Amoah, ECG's Ashanti West Regional General Manager, said the project is part of ECG's efforts to improve power distribution infrastructure across Greater Kumasi and beyond.
This upgrade aims to reduce the load on the overloaded Agogo Primary Substation feeder, ensuring a more stable electricity supply for residents in Nkawie, Toase, Mpasatia, and other areas.
According to him, the new line features an extensive infrastructure upgrade, including 92 eleven-meter poles and three twelve-meter poles strategically installed to support the transmission system.
He stated that the older line's longer distance resulted in low voltage problems, especially during peak demand times.
"The long distance of the older line contributed to low voltage issues, particularly during peak demand periods,” he said.
To Amoah, these enhancements will yield several key benefits, including a more stable voltage profile, reduced system losses, and increased operational efficiency.
Ultimately, this project aims to provide residents and businesses in the area with a more reliable and consistent power supply.
