The bidding process for the 2029 and 2031 editions of the World Athletics Championships is now open.

Stakeholders from member federations and host institutions who are interested in hosting or learning more about organising either of these events should read the bid guide for the 2029 and 2031 World Athletics Championships, then fill out and submit the bid pre-qualification form, which is accessible through the World Athletics Library.

The bidding process is set out in the bidding calendar.

The pre-qualification form submission deadline for both events is 1 October 2025.

The World Athletics Championships are among the most prominent major international athletic competitions worldwide.

As part of the process, World Athletics invites member federations and host institution stakeholders interested in hosting the World Athletics Championships 2029 / 2031 to participate in its observer programme at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 in September.

The 20th edition of  the World Athletics Championships will be held from 13th to 21st September this year  in Tokyo,and  the next World Athletics Championships will be held in Beijing in 2027.
