Dylan Efron Revealed The Wildest Thing He's Ever Eaten & It Has Us Gagging

Published 6 hours ago4 minute read

It's not every day that you get to play tug-of-war with *the* Dylan Efron. I recently attended a "glamping getaway" hosted by Wasa Camp Crunch on Governor's Island in NYC, and after an afternoon reliving the best of childhood with field games, I could certainly tell that the man has moves.

The crispbread brand partnered with Efron to create a sultry ASMR camping soundtrack, so check it out if you're into that sort of thing. During a break in the festivities, I had a chance to chat with the producer and now TV personality. I found out that while he's no stranger to incorporating plenty of protein into his diet to help fuel his triathlons and travels, there's one delicacy that you may not be quite as accustomed to as, say, your classic chicken cutlet.

During our sit-down, Efron shared that, while filming Down to Earth with Zac Efron in Peru, he tried... a live maggot. Cue the gagging. "The texture's disgusting, but the flavor was pretty good. It was kind of nutty and was memorable for sure," he revealed amid some telling facial expressions. Apparently not one to be too squeamish, when asked if he would ever eat one again, he was quick to reply, "Yeah, for sure." But then he clarified, stating that if he happened to be in the Peruvian wilderness again, he'd have another. We'll see if he finds himself there anytime soon.

And while the documentarian doesn't consider himself a snack (yes, I asked), he did share some of his favorite go-to's, which, thankfully, are a lot more palatable than Peruvian maggots. "I love green olives, pitted, nothing inside. I can eat that all day," he told me.

Always one to put health first, Efron also revealed his love of good ol' avocado toast. "I'm a California boy," he said with a grin and a shrug. But he doesn't opt for the classic base to make his creations. "I don't like the two slices of bread, and that's why I like Wasa. It's my toast without a toaster," he said. If he's craving a late-night snack, he'll switch to a sweeter approach with peanut or almond butter and a drizzle of maple syrup.

I was also excited to discover that Efron and I share the same guilty pleasure—and no, it's not staring at ourselves in the mirror (although I wouldn't blame him if it was). "I'm a big chocolate guy," he shared. "I like the dark chocolate, like 70%, so I can eat a lot of it." Same Dylan, same.

It's not all health all the time with the famous Efron brother—he lets loose every once in a while. He even shared his fast food hot take. "It's not even a hot take, I don't think, but everybody loves Chick-fil-A's chicken sandwich," he said. "I just had the Shake Shack Avocado Bacon Chicken Shack and it's 10 times better than the chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A. I was blown away." Shake Shack, hook this guy up with a sponsorship, stat!
