Duke, Jon Scheyer Are Clear Favorite for 5-Star High School Phenom

Published 20 hours ago2 minute read

Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils are once again expected to be a top-tier national championship contender during the 2025-26 college basketball season. After making a run to the Final Four last year, Duke lost quite a bit of talent with Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel being the major headliners.

In order to keep the Blue Devils at the top of the rankings, Scheyer will need to continue recruiting elite talent. He has done a great job of using traditional recruiting and the transfer portal so far.

While the 2025 recruiting class is seemingly all in place, the 2026 class needs some work. Right now, Duke is the clear favorite to land one five-star high school phenom.

Brandon McCoy, a 6-foot-5 combo guard from Bellflower, California, has been a top target for the Blue Devils. As of right now, things are looking very good for Duke.

According to On3 Sports, the Blue Devils are being given a 65.1% chance to land McCoy's commitment. Behind them are the USC Trojans with just a 1.8% chance.

As of right now, McCoy is ranked as the No. 1 combo guard in the 2026 recruiting class. He is also ranked No. 2 overall in the nation.

Being able to land a commitment from the dynamic guard would be a big step towards remaining a championship favorite at least for the next couple of years.

McCoy made an official visit with Duke back on Nov. 3, 2024. There has been a clear interest between the two parties for quite some time.

Things could still change, but the Blue Devils are alone at the top of the list of potential suitors for McCoy. There is no timeline for when he will announce his commitment, but Scheyer and company have to love their current position.
