Flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bryan Acheampong, has paid a courtesy call on former President John Agyekum Kufuor to formally inform him of his presidential ambitions.

Dr Acheampong, explaining the reason behind his visit said it was part of his broader consultations with key personalities and leaders of the party.

He expressed his reverence and appreciation for former President Kufuor, reflecting on their relationship and the pivotal role Kufuor has played in his political journey.

According to him, it would be a disgrace not to formally inform Kufuor of his presidential ambitions in person, and for him to instead hear about it through the media.

“Your Excellency, it will be very difficult and a big disgrace that one of the children you groomed has aspirations to do something and the first time you will hear it is on Peace FM. That will prove that something is wrong somewhere so my team and I decided that no matter what, I have to inform you of my plans.

“Whatever you say is what I will accept because I am still learning from my elders. With your blessings, as a young vibrant man I will like to submit my name to run for the flagbearership position of the party for the 2028 election so that’s why we are here,” he said in a video shared online and sighted by GhanaWeb.

He added, “I have always been trying to find time to visit. A lot of people don’t know that some time back when Suhum elections got very tough, you were then the President and you summoned me to your house and told me to step down due to how chaotic the election was just for peace to reign. I listened to you and stepped down. You also said we should go on and serve the party and that it will get to a point where the party will be greater and will gain power. We have followed and served till now and still going.”

The NPP is scheduled to conduct its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
