The local authority said the discount would reduce an £8 daily ticket to £5, and a £32 weekly ticket to £20.

"This is about making it easier for young people in Cornwall to have a choice about how they travel both now and into the future," Donnithorne said.

He said the council had invested in infrastructure to improve journey times, adding funding for the bus fares pilots meant it had been able to keep ticket prices lower than "their true market cost over the last three years".

"We have seen the benefits of this work with more than 12.7m passengers traveling on the bus network in Cornwall in 2024, an increase of over 2.7% on 2023," he added.

The Transport for Cornwall app brings together timetables and information about all bus services in the county in one place for the first time, the council said.

It said users would be able to buy and store their day, weekly or town passes on the app, as well as providing feedback on services.
