Developments in Accessible Air Travel and Stopover Flights

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has redesigned its sign language badge to promote accessible air travel, aiming to help passengers who use sign language easily identify staff trained in communication support. This initiative aligns with ANA Group’s broader commitment to barrier-free service and universal accessibility, especially with the approach of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics.

The new badge features a heart formed by two intersecting fingers, symbolizing connection and compassion through sign language. It is designed to be easily recognizable, encouraging passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing to confidently approach trained staff for assistance. The badge will be worn by ANA cabin attendants and airport staff certified at level four or higher in the Japanese Sign Language Proficiency Test or the Japanese National Sign Language Certification.

Executive Vice President of Customer Experience at ANA, Keiji Omae, emphasized that the redesigned badge reflects the airline's dedication to inclusivity and seamless communication for all passengers. The initiative is part of ANA’s “A Sky Welcoming Everyone” campaign, ensuring an inclusive experience for travelers heading to and from Japan for the Tokyo 2025 Summer Deaflympics.

ANA’s commitment to universal service extends beyond the badge redesign, encompassing enhancements to physical facilities and customer experience practices. These include staff trained in Japanese Sign Language, barrier-free facilities at airports and onboard aircraft, digital and visual communication tools, and service quality improvements tailored to international standards. ANA strives to ensure every customer, regardless of background or ability, enjoys a comfortable and stress-free journey.

Founded in 1952, ANA has grown into Japan’s largest airline and has consistently earned the SKYTRAX 5-Star rating for 12 consecutive years. ANA Holdings Inc. (ANA HD), established in 2013, includes ANA, Peach Aviation, and AirJapan. As ANA continues to evolve, accessibility remains central to its operations, with the sign language badge symbolizing a welcoming message to the world.
