Day of reckoning is coming, Amaewhule warns Fubara

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has sent a strong warning to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, saying that “we are not asleep” and that “a day of reckoning is coming.”

Amaewhule made the statement during a solidarity visit by the National Assembly Caucus of Rivers State, where he accused the governor of financial recklessness and impunity.

Amaewhule alleged that the Governor has been spending state funds recklessly, saying that such actions will be scrutinized in the coming days.

He also declared that all those parading themselves as Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and Civil Servants are impostors, as they have not been screened and confirmed by the Assembly.

Amaewhule stressed that the governor’s actions are a clear disregard for the constitution and the rule of law. He warned that the Assembly will not stand idly by while the Governor continues to undermine the democratic institutions of the state.

He said: “Rivers funds that the Governor is currently spending from his front pocket in different currencies, as if it belongs to him and his family, will definitely be in the front burners in the coming days and weeks.

“All those parading themselves as Commissioners are not Commissioners, those working with them as Permanent Secretaries, those Civil Servants, all those impostors, even the ones that they said they swore in a few days ago, parading themselves as members of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission and Assembly Service Commission, they should keep parading themselves and keep deceiving themselves. We are putting this disclaimer out to the public for them to know that these individuals are not officers of the Rivers State Government.

Late Clark was a beacon of hope, says Fubara

“The laws of Rivers State provide for the screening and confirmation of nominees for appointment as members of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission. The Governor is yet to write to us.

“But they will give an account of what they are doing with taxpayers’ money.

“The governor should know that we are not sleeping. Hundreds of billions of funds belonging to Rivers State that are missing today, not accounted for, will have a day of reckoning. They should not think that we are asleep; we are not asleep.”

The Speaker’s warning comes amidst the interpretation of the Supreme Court ruling on February 10, which has been characterized by a series of controversies and seeming power struggles.

The National Assembly Caucus of Rivers State, led by Kingsley Chinda, the Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, commended the Assembly for standing firm in the face of adversity, stating that they are “on the part of the law.”

He also encouraged them not to be bothered by criticisms on social media, emphasizing that the law is based on facts, not propaganda.

Other members of the National Assembly Caucus who accompanied Chinda on the visit included Victor Obuzor, representing Ahoada West, ONELGA; Blessing Amadi, representing Phalga II; Cyril Hart, representing Bonny/Degema; Dunamene Dekor, representing Khana/Gokana; Sen. Allwell Onyesoh, representing Rivers East; and Sen. Barinaadaa Mpigi, representing Rivers South East.
