CLEMENTS – A woman suspected of driving under the influence and two passengers are dead following a crash on Highway 12 in San Joaquin County Sunday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened on Highway 12 east of Clements Road in Clements around 3:40 p.m.

The CHP said a Ford Fiesta was traveling east on Highway 12 when the driver lost control for reasons not known and spun out into the westbound lane.

This is when the Fiesta was broadsided by a Toyota Tacoma heading west, officers said.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 25-year-old woman suspected of DUI, died, the CHP said. Officers said the two other passengers in the Fiesta died and were believed to be in their 20s.

There were two other passengers in the Fiesta who were injured, officers said. Their latest condition is not known at this time.

None of the five occupants in the vehicle were wearing seat belts, according to the CHP.

The driver of the Tacoma suffered minor injuries.

The road has been closed for more than two hours but is expected to reopen sometime around 6:30 p.m.

Clements is a community located more than 20 miles northeast of Stockton.
