COVID-19 Cases Spike in Multiple Indian Cities

Mumbai has reported a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with 95 new cases in May, compared to the state's total of 106 since January, according to the Maharashtra health department. Major urban cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, along with states such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, have reported a sudden spike in COVID-19 infections in the past few days.
India is witnessing a sudden surge in new COVID-19 cases after experiencing a significant decline in daily infections for over four years. Currently, India has over 275 active cases, raising concerns among experts about a potential new pandemic wave. Experts suggest that the highly transmissible JN.1 subvariant of Omicron, dominant in Asia and causing issues in Hong Kong and Singapore, could be responsible for the spike in cases in India.
Hospitals in high alert areas have been instructed to enhance COVID-19 preparedness protocols. The public, especially those with underlying health conditions, are advised to remain cautious. Health officials have stated that the severity of infections is currently low, with people experiencing only mild symptoms. The focus is on real-time updates, expert insights, government advisories, symptoms to watch for, and key prevention strategies.
