After battling one of the deadliest viral outbreaks in human history , the virus behind COVID-19 for over four years and witnessing a significant decline in daily infections, India is once again seeing a sudden surge in new cases.

As per reports, India currently has over 275 active cases. The sudden spike in fresh infections across the country has left experts worried if there is another pandemic wave coming in. As per the government data, major urban cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, along with states such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, have reported a sudden spike in COVID-19 infections in the past few days.

Experts suggest that the highly transmissible JN.1 subvariant of Omicron, which is currently dominant in Asia and is wreaking havoc in Hong Kong and Singapore, could be behind this sudden spike in cases in India. Taking cognizance of the situation, hospitals in the high alert areas have been asked to step up COVID-19 preparedness protocols.All the people have also been asked to remain cautious, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Addressing the nation about the sudden surge in fresh cases, and the possibility of another pandemic wave, India's health officials have stated that the severity of infections is currently low, with people experiencing only mild symptoms.
