College Basketball News: Roster Updates and Retirements

Following a seven-year college basketball journey spanning three institutions, former Iowa guard CJ Fredrick has announced his retirement from basketball via social media. Fredrick, who began his career with the Iowa Hawkeyes during the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season, expressed gratitude for the opportunities the sport provided. He spent two seasons in Iowa City, averaging 8.8 points with shooting splits of 47.9% from the field, 46.6% from three, and 74.4% from the free-throw line. He also contributed 2.3 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 26.6 minutes per game across 52 starts.

After the 2020-21 season, Fredrick transferred to Kentucky, where a hamstring injury sidelined him for a year. In the 2022-23 season with the Wildcats, he averaged 6.1 points, shooting 35.1% from the field and 31.8% from three. After one season at Kentucky, Fredrick entered the transfer portal again, ultimately landing at Cincinnati. As a Bearcat, he averaged 3.4 points, shooting 39.4% from the field and 41.7% from three.

Injuries, including issues with his hamstring, ribs, ankle, feet, and back, significantly impacted his playing time. Despite these setbacks, Fredrick played a total of 113 games. He reflected on his career, expressing love for the game and gratitude for the relationships he formed.
