Cole Palmer Shares Laugh with Pep Guardiola After Manchester City Beat Chelsea

Manchester City completed a league double over Chelsea after they came from behind to beat them 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.

New signing Abdukodir Khusanov had the rudest of welcomes to English football after he gave away possession inside the first 2 minutes which Noni Madueke capitalised on for the game's opener.

The champions however bounced back with Josko Gvardiol finally putting away one of his chances just before halftime. A series of defensive lapses from Robert Sanchez and Levi Colwill allowed Erling Haaland and Phil Foden to score in the second half and send City back into the top four.

Chelsea star forward Cole Palmer had an uncharacteristic silent night with the England international failing to shine against his former employers.

Palmer had a glorious opportunity to double Chelsea's lead after he was put through on goal by Trevoh Chalobah but he opted to pass the ball to Nicolas Jackson. The Senegalese squared the ball to Enzo Fernandez whose shot at goal was thwarted by Khusanov.

Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola thankes his former player for being 'generous.'

"Cole had the chance to make it 0-2. Hopefully, he was so generous and normally in that situation Cole is a machine. And we were lucky that they didn't score!" said the Spanish tactician as quoted by Beanyman Sports.

The two shared a friendly chat after the game. Sky Sports pundit blasted the Chelsea player for laughing after his side had lost the game.

"I want to say something about Cole Palmer, he was talking to Pep Guardiola on the pitch right at the end of the game and he was smiling with him, Pep Guardiola does that."
"Cole, you’re being played, you’re being played here, you didn’t do enough out on that pitch in the second half.
"He’s an amazing player, absolutely brilliant, but you know something, those Chelsea fans that travelled today, the 3,000 or 4,000 in that far corner wanted better than that, they don’t really want to see you conversing with your opposition manager and smiling at the end of the game."

Enzo Maresca's side have now sunk to sixth on the table, 13 points off leaders Liverpool just one month after they were one win away from overtaking the Reds.

Manchester City are now up in fourth but face the battle of their lives on Wednesday against Club Brugge to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
