Clint Eastwood has hit a major milestone.

The Hollywood legend turns 95 on Saturday, May 31, nearly a year since his longtime girlfriend Christina Sandera died.

Son Scott Eastwood recently gave an update on how his father was holding up, telling PEOPLE the Gran Torino actor was "doing good" adding that, "he’s a survivor, a trouper.”

Scott, 39, added that when it comes to his father, the Dirty Harry icon is not one to complain. "He was born coming out of the Great Depression, and then he was young during World War II. He saw a lot of struggle," Scott said.

Sandera, Clint’s partner of 10 years, died of a heart attack at age 61 last July. At the time, the Oscar winner released a statement saying, “Christina was a lovely, caring woman, and I will miss her very much."

Speaking with Austrian newspaper Kurier ahead of his 95th birthday, the star expressed that at his age, he remains in good physical shape and no one needs to worry about his health "for a long time yet."

"There’s no reason why a man can’t get better with age," Clint said in the interview published on May 30. "And I have much more experience today. Sure, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I’m not one of them."

While Clint has kept public appearances to a minimum recently, he remains a major presence in Hollywood — such as his latest directorial project Juror #2.

The drama stars Nicholas Hoult as "family man" Justin Kemp, who serves as a a juror in a "high-profile murder trial" before he "finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma, one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict — or free — the accused killer," per a synopsis.

Speaking with PEOPLE at the Oct. 27 premiere for the film at the AFI Film Festival, Hoult revealed that he was "truly shocked" to be cast, while sharing what it was like to work with the Unforgiven star.

"He is cinema in many ways, as an actor, the performances he's given, the films he's directed," Hoult said. "It's just magic to be on set with him and [to have] learned from him. So I feel very, very lucky."

Clint's family has also celebrated some milestones and achievements — such as son Scott's upcoming films Tin Soldier and Alarum, the latter which stars Sylvester Stallone, and daughter Morgan Eastwood marrying Tanner Koopmans last summer at the Mission Ranch in Carmel, California.

Last August, the 1992 star revealed what meaningful advice his famous dad has passed along to help him with his acting career. "Follow your gut," Scott shared.
