A prominent Islamic scholar in Kano, Sheikh Professor Umar Sani Fagge, has called on Muslims to intensify righteous deeds during the first 10 days of Dhul Hajj, describing the period as one of the most spiritually rewarding in Islam—second only to the last 10 days of Ramadan.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, along with Saudi Arabian authorities, declared Wednesday, May 28, as the first day of Dhul Hajj 1446 AH. The Day of Arafat, the peak of the Hajj rites, will be observed on the ninth day, culminating in Eid al-Adha (Sallah) on the 10th of Dhul Hajj.

Professor Fagge emphasised that Muslims should seize this sacred opportunity to engage in good deeds solely for the sake of Allah.

He urged believers to redouble their spiritual efforts during these days.

He listed frequent recitation of the Qur’an, voluntary fasting, regular prayers, visiting relatives to strengthen family ties, and sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as examples of commendable acts.

Fagge also advised Muslims to reflect deeply during this sacred period and maximise its immense spiritual benefits.
