CHP calls out big rig driver for ignoring signs, losing control in construction zone
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is asking truck drivers to heed road closure signs after a recent mishap on I-80.
On June 25, 2025, CHP’s Truckee Division took to social media to call out a “poor decision” made by a truck driver who got a “crash course in reading signs” the night before.
From CHP:
““HERE’S YOUR SIGN…”
Late last night, a driver on eastbound I-80 just east of Kingvale said “ROAD CLOSED? Challenge accepted.”
The driver was going way too fast, lost control, blasted through some attenuators, and gave the construction zone a surprise water delivery. The big rig came to rest right where fresh concrete is supposed to be poured, not exactly the finish line we had in mind.
This morning? We’re still cleaning up the mess. So if you’re seeing orange chunks of plastic everywhere, don’t panic, it’s not modern art. Just last night’s poor decision making on full display.“
