China continues warning of heat waves as temperatures may go over 40 C in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region

China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) maintained its yellow heat alert on Tuesday for northern regions, warning temperatures could exceed 40 C in parts of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

According to NMC, during the daytime on Tuesday, temperatures could go beyond 35 C in regions including Beijing, Tianjin, the central and southern parts of North China's Hebei Province, East China’s Shandong Province, Central China’s Henan Province, North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, Jilin Province and Heilongjiang Province, the Junggar Basin of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the southern Xinjiang Basin, as well as South China’s Guangdong Province and East China's Fujian Province.

In some areas, including southern and central Beijing, Tianjin, southern and central Hebei, northern Shandong, eastern Inner Mongolia and the southern Xinjiang Basin, highest temperatures are expected to reach 37–39 C, with some localities possibly exceeding 40 C, according to the NMC

According to Beijing Meteorological Service said on Tuesday that an orange alert for high temperatures is on, warning that the temperature could be as high as 38 C and that residents should minimize outdoor activities around midday.

Tuesday also marked the first day of Beijing’s senior high school entrance exam, Beijing Municipal Education Commission warned that the heatwave is expected to persist through Wednesday and advised examinees, their parents, and exam-related personnel to take precautions against heat and ensure adequate hydration.
